How do I configure ResNet on Windows?


To connect to ResNet via a wired connection on Windows, follow the primary method on how to connect your wired desktop to ResNet. If you are not able to connect to the wired network and already have RUWireless Secure installed on your device, you can use the following instructions as an alternate way to connect.

  1. Right-click on the WiFi/Ethernet icon and click Open Network and Sharing Center.

         

  2. On the left-hand side, click Change Adapter Properties.

         

  3. Right click on the Ethernet adapter and select Properties.

         

  4. Go to the second tab, labeled Authentication.

         

  5. If the Authentication tab is not visible, open the Run box (Windows Key + R) and type “services.msc”. Look for “Wired AutoConfig” and start the service if it is not running by right-clicking it and clicking Start. Also, open the properties for this service and set the Startup Type to Automatic.

         
         
         
         

  6. Ensure Enable IEEE 802.1X authentication is checked.

         

  7. Click on the drop-down below Choose a network authentication method and make sure SecureW2 SecureW2 EAP-TTLS is selected.

         

  8. Then click Settings to the right of the drop-down menu.
  9. On the popup, click Configure.

         

  10. In the new popup, click User account.
  11. Uncheck Prompt user for credentials.
  12. Enter your NetID@rutgers.edu in the username field.
  13. Enter your NetID password in the password field.
  14. Check the box Use this account to log in computer.

         

  15. Click Ok to close the various popup windows.
  16. Please unplug and plug back in the ethernet cable to the wall and restart your device.
