A. How do I get connected to the wired network?
Plug one end of your Ethernet cable into the Ethernet port on your computer. Plug the other end into the Ethernet jack in the wall. The jack is usually black and labeled with a number and the letter “D”. Visit resnet.rutgers.edu to check your device configuration or download the installer (NetID/Password required). After running the installer, restart your computer or disconnect and reconnect your cable.
B. Can I connect more than one device to the wired network in my room?
Although you can only connect one device per port to the wired network at a time, there is no restriction on the total number of network devices in a room. Residents with more wired devices than there are ports would be required to disconnect the current device and then connect the new device in the same Ethernet port.
C. How do I set up my console gaming system on the network?
Only consoles that have an ethernet port (PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Wii w/ adapter, WiiU, Xbox 360, Xbox One) can be used in the residence halls. If you wish to use a console on the network, please locate the MAC address of the device and then call the Help Desk for assistance. For help in finding the MAC address of your device, click here.
D. I got a new computer or device. What do I need to do to get connected?
In order to use your new device, first you must download the installer found at resnet.rutgers.edu. If you are attempting to use a device on the wired network that does not support the installer, please contact the OIT Computing Help Desk at 848-445-HELP (4357) to have your device manually registered.
